Belize 2005

Here are some photos from our vacation in 2005 to the Central American country of Belize.

Most of these photos were taken while scuba diving. although a few were taken from the surface while snorkelling. These were taken with my Canon Powershot S45 digital camera, in a Canon waterproof case. Because I don't (yet!) have an underwater strobe (aka flash), I have processed them somewhat, to try to remove the blue color cast. However, with the deeper shots (such as the first turtle, which was taken at about 70-75 feet) there isn't much I can do, since blue is about the only light left at that depth. When I can get up very close to the subject, such as with the squirrelfish and lobster, I can use the camera's built-in flash, which helps to restore the colors underwater.
